About

Michelle Altenberg in Florence, Italy

Hi there! I’m Michelle—an American currently living in London with my husband and two doggos. Thank you for visiting my little corner of the Internet where I write in-depth travel guides and explore cultural nuances of cities across the globe.

About Me

Ever since I can remember, I have been slightly addicted to travel. Even as a kid growing up in Texas, I would plan our family trips out in great detail, painstakingly going over every day’s itinerary and comparing it to my little National Geographic Travel guides.

Fast forward a bit to age 19, when I studied abroad in Florence, Italy. I fell in love with Italian food, architecture and culture, and strengthened my affinity for travel. I return to Florence and to Italy as often as I can now.

I’ve always had a fascination with other cultures. It’s what led me to study anthropology and communication at university. I think there’s immeasurable growth to be found spending time in cultures outside your own.

Anyway, after finishing school, I worked in external relations at a couple different foreign policy think tanks in Washington, D.C. I loved the global element of working and communicating across cultures and time zones, with colleagues from all over the world. I’ve continued to work in various writing and marketing capacities at non-profits over the years.

A couple years ago in 2021, my husband and I moved from Texas to London for his new job. It had always been a dream of mine to return to this region of the world and take advantage of more affordable and convenient travel opportunities.

I started my Instagram and this blog to document the adventures we go on and reflect on life as an expat/immigrant. I hope to inspire and help others to travel more along the way.
